FAQ
CS2 demo viewer FAQ
How do I move my license to a new PC?
Email support@demo-trace.com from your purchase email address with your Paddle transaction or receipt number. After verifying your purchase, we deactivate your old PC. Enter the same license code in Demo Trace on your new PC. One active PC is allowed at a time; you do not need to buy another license.
Which demo files can I open?
Supported inputs include .dem, .dem.gz and .dem.zst. Parsing and replay are separate: your installed CS2 build must also support the recording.
Can I change rounds and player perspectives?
You can pause, seek, change playback speed and follow recorded players. Available perspectives and events depend on what the demo contains.
Will every recording play with sound?
Recorded voice requires a supported format in the demo. Missing voice cannot be reconstructed, and timing alignment has known limits.
Does Demo Trace replace Steam or CS2?
No. Replay uses your locally installed CS2 engine and requires Steam. Demo Trace is independent of Valve and Steam.
How do I get Demo Trace?
Check the download page for a published Windows installer. If none is available, join product updates on the homepage. Check release requirements before installing.
Can I use Demo Trace offline?
An internet connection is required to use replay features.
Are my demos uploaded?
Demo files and recorded voice stay local by default. Support diagnostics are uploaded only when you explicitly select and consent to them.
What do I need to run Demo Trace?
Windows x64, Steam, installed CS2 and a compatible local recording. Check requirements for the specific release.
